Inside Kazu Saito’s collaboration for PAÑPURI Holiday 2026: Quiet Illumination

Holding Light in Motion: Kazu Saito for Quiet Illumination
Before the world wakes, light begins its silent work.
It gathers in the air, folds darkness into day, and reveals what has always been there. Slowly, deliberately, like breath.
This is the spirit of Quiet Illumination, PAÑPURI Holiday 2026 collection. To bring this idea into visual form, we invited artist Kazu Saito, a contemporary master of Nihonga, to interpret the collection through his own lens. The result is Luminous, an original artwork that captures the essence of first light.

Every fragrance begins with air; every painting, with light.
In Luminous, Saito brings these two elements together, finding beauty in what lingers: still air, the night sky, and the familiar scent of everyday life. Like the fragrances of the Quiet Illumination collection, the artwork captures the passage of light and the quiet held between beginnings.

“This work revolves around the theme of scent.
I began my art by thinking about fragrance.” — Kazu Saito

The Artist’s Hours
Saito paints when the world falls silent. It’s in those hours, when the city breathes slowly and the sky expands, that his attention sharpens. Rooted in the centuries-old tradition of Nihonga, his work balances restraint and emotion, using natural pigments and layered depth to express the intangible: time, scent, and light itself.
His lifelong fascination with the sky began in childhood, when its boundless vastness became both dream and future. That fascination endures in Luminous, where each brushstroke traces the movement of dawn as it gathers and glows, the very transition that inspired Quiet Illumination.

“I like the quiet moments when there are no voices, no footsteps passing by.
That’s why I love the night.” — Kazu Saito

For us, this collaboration is beyond visual adornment. It is a dialogue between two crafts: perfumery and painting, air and pigment, silence and light. Luminous lives across PAÑPURI Holiday 2026 offerings, a companion to each gesture of the season, and to the light that moves through them all.

“The beauty and freedom of Japanese painting moved me deeply.” — Kazu Saito
