At Yokohama, a city long shaped by the movement of the sea, a new chapter of The Hidden Sanctuary of Tales looks toward a distant shore.

Inspired by Ko Kaeo Phitsadan, the island sanctuary in Sunthorn Phu’s Phra Aphai Mani, one of Thailand’s great literary epics, The Untouched Hour imagines the interval before discovery. Land has begun to gather at the horizon, though its shape is still uncertain. The journey continues somewhere between what can be seen and what remains to be imagined.

A sanctuary across the water

In Phra Aphai Mani, Ko Kaeo Phitsadan exists as a sanctuary reached across the sea. At NEWoMan Yokohama, this idea finds a natural counterpart in the city’s maritime character.

Rather than recreating the island itself, the boutique holds onto an earlier moment: the first suggestion of a shore in the distance. It is an hour of anticipation, when the destination is close enough to be felt and still far enough to retain its mystery.

The space takes shape through the language of water, light and distance.

Curved cabinetry moves gently through the boutique, its continuous forms recalling the rhythm of waves. Pale mineral surfaces and weathered textures carry traces of coastlines shaped over time, while translucent layers soften the boundaries between one area and the next.

Light remains diffused throughout. Forms reveal themselves gradually, as a landscape might emerge through mist or morning haze. Nothing asks to be understood at once.
